FAQ
How does an online auction work?
The Red Barn online auctions have items to bid on, placed in lots. All of the lots are categorized and listed in an online catalog with pictures and description for you to easily browse each item. Most of our auctions will be open for bidding for 14 days, but can be longer or shorter depending on the seller's needs.
How do I bid?
First, you need to register for a bidder number, which can be done by following the steps listed on the Bidder Registration link at the top of any page. Only registered users, with Proxibid, can bid on our auctions. Once registered, search the lots available for bidding under the Current Auctions tab. When you have found an item you would like to place a bid on, place your current bid and/or your maximum bid in the box. Click Submit Bid. On the next page, you can review your bids before making them final. Remember, your bid on any item is a legally binding contract.
What is a Max Bid?
A max bid is the highest amount you are willing to pay for that item. When entered, the auction software will bid on your behalf up to your max bid, but only if another bidder has outbid you. You only pay what the item is bid up to, not your max bid. Your max bid is only disclosed to you.
Why should I use a Max Bid?
By using a max bid, you can ensure your bids will be placed by our software even if you cannot be at the computer to bid. This minimizes the chances of you missing out on one or many lots. You can always raise your max bid by entering a higher number in the max bid box and clicking Submit Bid. You may not lower your max bid.
How do I register?
Click on the Bidder Registration link at the top of any page. Please read the Terms & Conditions. There will be a form for you to fill out with your personal information. This information is retained by Proxibid for the sole purpose of bidder identification. Once you have completed the form, check the box to confirm you have accepted the Terms & Conditions for our auctions, and click the Submit Registration Form link. You will receive a confirmation email with your bidder number.
How do I know if I have won?
After the entire auction closes, Proxibid will send an email containing an invoice for each lot to the winning bidders registered email address. If you do not receive an invoice by 11:00 A.M. the day following close of auction but were a winning bidder, please call our company at 252-459-3812 for further assistance. In addition, The Red Barn will send a detail invoice via your email address with lots won, and information about pickup day and time.
Do all lots end at one time?
The Red Barn Auctions utilize a staggered ending time (Soft close auction). This minimizes the chances that you as a bidder will miss out on an item. If all items ended at one time, it would be impossible to bid at the last second on more than one item. Staggered ending (soft close) means we may have one, two, or even five lots ending each minute. This allows you to focus only on the items that are ending, and allows you to bid at the last second throughout the entire auction. If a bid is placed within the last five minutes on a lot, that lot will have bidding extended for up to five minutes to allow other bidders a chance to bid. The lot will close to bidding when no bid has been placed within the last five minutes. Be sure to click refresh to keep the page updated. The auction pages do not automatically refresh.
When and how do I pay?
Your payment is due at the auction pickup location on pickup day or may be paid online. You may pay by cash, credit card or business/personal check. All payments are to be made to The Red Barn Auction Company unless listed otherwise in a specific auction. Remember, all lots are sold "As Is, Where Is, With All Faults". Please take advantage of all photos provided for your personal review of items you are interested in.
